Several Philippine destinations landed in the top 20 of the New7Wonders of Nature list. The sad news is that it is seeing a continual drop in the survey rankings since its launch on 07.07.07.
Tubbataha Reef and Chocolate Hills were once in the 2nd and 3rd place positions, while the Princesa Subterranean National Park has beaten India's River Ganges for 5th place, and Mayon Volcano bested Japan's Mount Fuji and was ranked 9th overall.
As of the latest tally, the Tubbataha reef now ranks eighth, the Chocolate Hills ninth, the Puerto Princesa Subterranean National Park 11th and the Mayon Volcano at 20th place.
Voting for nominees will continue until December 31, 2008. Only the top 21 finalists at the end of the first round will be announced on January 2009. Then a second year-long competition will be held to determine the top seven contenders and will be officially declared as the New7Wonders of Nature by the year 2010.
Let us all help in advocating the conservation of our natural resources and promote the best destinations in our country.
The search for the New7Wonders of Nature Campaign was organized by New7Wonders Foundation, a non-profit organization which has the express aim of undertaking documentation and conservation works of monuments worldwide under the motto: "OUR HERITAGE IS OUR FUTURE."
